Machine Basics 2: Standard Zippers

Machine Basics 2: Standard Zippers

Build confidence and skill sewing installing standard zippers.  A standard zipper is one that has exposed teeth on the front of the zipper.  After you install the zipper you can still see the teeth.  Make a small project using skills learned. Explore machine presser feet designed for zipper installation.

Students should have basic working knowledge of a sewing machine or completed Machine Basics 1: General sewing machine use (be comfortable with your sewing machine, sew a seam, thread machine, fill and replace bobbin).

Class covers essential zipper installation techniques for standard zippers.  Students learn to use zipper presser feet for their machine or ours. Bring your own machine if you can.

Instructor guides students step by step in making samples to learn techniques.   Pre-made samples on display for each step. Students see, touch and execute to learn.  Additional discussion of various types of zippers and when to use them. Completed garments and projects on display to illustrate applications of learned skills.

Students will also view printed sewing pattern instructions for installing zipper in garment.  Instructor will discuss how to follow sewing pattern instructions for installing a standard zipper in garment.  Skills learned making samples and small project equip students to install standard zippers into garments or objects.

Optional small project completed in second half of class.
