Machine Basics 5: Concealed Zippers (AKA Invisible Zippers)

Machine Basics 4: Invisible Zippers (AKA Concealed Zippers)

Build confidence and skill sewing installing concealed/invisible zippers.  A standard zipper is one that has hidden teeth on the front of the zipper - all you see is the fabric surrounding the zipper.  Make a small project using skills learned. Explore machine presser feet designed for zipper installation.

Students should have basic working knowledge of a sewing machine or completed Machine Basics 1: General sewing machine use (be comfortable with your sewing machine, sew a seam, th read machine, fill and replace bobbin).

Class covers essential zipper installation techniques for invisible/concealed zippers.  Students learn to use zipper presser feet for their machine or ours. Bring your own machine if you can and its standard zipper foot and invisible/concealed zipper foot (two different feet).

Instructor guides students step by step in making samples to learn techniques.   Pre-made samples on display for each step. Students see, touch and execute to learn.   Completed garments and projects on display to illustrate applications of learned skills.

Students will also view printed sewing pattern instructions for installing zipper in garment.  Instructor will discuss how to follow selected sewing pattern instructions for installing a standard zipper in garment.  Skills learned making samples and small project equip students to install standard zippers into garments or objects.
