Alabama Chanin: Hand Sewing & Embroidery

Experience the zen of hand sewing in this 1.5 hour class. Learn sewing techniques needed to make garments in the Alabama Chanin Style. Students practice and apply skills learned to make a small pillow. The Alabama Chanin garments are completely hand sewn and embellished with applique and embroidery.  

This class teaches techniques used throughout the upcoming, year long series of Alabama Chanin Garments. 

The first few classes in the series are:

  • Handsewing & Embroidery Techniques
  • Applique and Reverse Applique Techniques
  • The A-Line Dress (can also be a tunic or shirt length)
  • More to be announced
Supplies: Provided by instructor, all pieces pre-cut and ready to use.

- Hand Embroidery and seaming
- Welted Seams
- Functional Embroidery for finishing openings
- Tool Use
- Thread Choice, preparation and use
- Applique stitching
