Alabama Chanin: Applique Techniques


This 1.5 hour class teaches applique techniques used to construct Alabama Chanin garments.  Learn to use Alabama Chanin stencil patterns, fabric marking methods, layering and stitches for applique and reverse applique.  Students make a cotton jersey scarf to practice skills learned. All supplies provided by instructor. Several color choices available.

Skills learned will be used in the Dabble & Stitch, year long series, Alabama Chanin Techniques and Garments.  It is not a prerequisite for the series.  

No sewing skill required.  Complete beginners welcome.  

Materials:  All materials pre cut and provided by instructor

Skills Learned:

  • Stenciling or marking applique site/designs;

  • Stitches used for applique/reverse applique;

  • Cutting reverse applique after stitching;

  • Design choices for reversible garments;

  • Use of sharpies in applique and embellishment.
