Button Up Shirt Sewing Skills

This class will use the Archer shirt from Grainline Studio as the basis for learning the many sewing techniques that are needed to successfully sew a button down shirt.  We'll cover the burrito technique for sewing yokes and collar stands, the slot method for sewing cuffs. The Archer Shirt comes in sizes 0-18 (Busts 32-44) (Hips 35-47).  If your measurements are outside of this range, please contact the shop BEFORE registering for the class.  There may be other patterns that could be used in the class depending on your specific needs.

  • If you've never sewn a button down shirt before, the easiest fabric to start with is cotton shirting.  Other suitable fabrics are poplin, chambray, lightweight linen or linen blends, and lightweight (shirting) flannel.  The fabric required is 2 1/2 - 2 3/4 yards depending on your size.
